In the 1940s, the nation was captivated by an electrifying experiment by legendary sociologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark. They asked black children about two dolls, one white and one black. Then all black children interviewed picked the white doll over the black.

African American girls, in particular, disturbingly are still feel that white dolls are prettier according to the program. However, African American boys feel that both dolls are pretty. Go figure! We have a lot to do to make African American girls feel good about themselves and beautiful. What can we do???
